Kathleen Murphy

Vice-President and Secretary

“The secret in education lies in respecting the student.”

— Ralph Waldo Emerson

Kathleen Murphy serves as the Vice President and Secretary of Wolverine Wonders Homeschool Co-Op and is one of the co-op’s three original incorporators. A dedicated educator with a passion for innovative teaching, Kathleen has been an elementary school teacher for over seven years and brings valuable experience in outdoor education and scientifically proven reading interventions to her role on the board.

Kathleen’s journey with Wolverine Wonders began when founder Milena Smith invited her to join the co-op’s founding board. Inspired by Milena’s vision and driven by a desire to address the growing challenges within the educational system, Kathleen embraced the opportunity to help create a supportive, family-operated homeschool co-op. She strongly believes in the importance of parent involvement in education, especially as a means of supporting student mental health—a core value Wolverine Wonders offers to its members.

As Vice President and Secretary, Kathleen documents monthly board meetings, ensuring transparency and accountability in the co-op’s operations. She also provides feedback to the board to continually refine and enhance the program. Her expertise and commitment to education have had a meaningful impact, helping students and families thrive in the unique group-learning environment Wolverine Wonders offers.

Kathleen’s connection to Wolverine Wonders’ mission stems from her experiences as a classroom teacher, where she has witnessed the growing lack of support for students in public education. Being part of a program where parents are valued for their teaching abilities and active participation has been a refreshing and fulfilling experience for her.

A fun fact about Kathleen? She was a competitive Irish step dancer for six years, showcasing her dedication and discipline both in and outside the classroom.

Her favorite quote, “The secret in education lies in respecting the student,” reflects her belief in honoring the individuality and potential of each child—a principle she carries into her work at Wolverine Wonders.
