Makaylah Briskey

Board Member | Social Events Coordinator

Makaylah Briskey is the Social Events Coordinator for Wolverine Wonders Homeschool Co-Op and one of its original incorporators. From the very beginning, Makaylah has been a steadfast supporter of the co-op’s mission and vision, bringing her dedication to her family and her unwavering commitment to homeschooling families in the community.

Makaylah first connected with founder Milena Smith at the very first meeting organized to set up the group. After arranging with Nicole to host the co-op, Milena put out a flyer inviting homeschooling moms to discuss creating something new for the community. While only a handful of moms attended that meeting, Makaylah stood out as the one who truly understood Milena’s vision and stayed committed to it. When Wolverine Wonders transitioned from an informal group into a registered nonprofit, Makaylah joined as part of the founding team, ready to help turn the vision into reality.

Milena shares, “Makaylah knows well how it feels to want to homeschool deeply but feel unprepared or doubt yourself. What I admire the most about Makaylah is that at the same time she was telling me how unprepared she felt, it’s like ‘not homeschooling’ was not an option for her. She didn’t feel ready, but she was willing to figure it out. She’s not scared to say she doesn’t know how to do something, but you better believe it will be followed by a ‘but I can learn.’ That is honorable to me. Makaylah has proven herself as someone who has the co-op’s best interests at heart and carries forward my vision that this all exists to empower homeschooling families and fill a gap where both homeschoolers and caregivers are welcomed.”

As Social Events Coordinator, Makaylah plays a key role in fostering connections among Wolverine Wonders families. She organizes social gatherings such as scheduled playdates, mom’s night out, seasonal family meetups, and other opportunities for parents and children to connect outside of structured learning time. Her ability to create welcoming, supportive spaces makes her an essential part of the co-op’s leadership.

Makaylah also played a pivotal role in naming the co-op. During brainstorming sessions, Milena expressed her desire for the group’s name to honor its roots in Bayfield, Colorado, where the mascot is a wolverine. She envisioned a name that would strengthen the Bayfield mascot’s legacy while also reflecting the group’s independence and flexibility, signaling that it wasn’t tied to a school system or ideology. That’s when Makaylah suggested the perfect name: Wolverine Wonders Homeschool Co-Op. The name captured everything Milena was looking for—“Wonders”represented the curiosity and imagination of homeschooling families—the freedom to explore, learn, and let minds wander—while also signifying the wandering nature of learning, unbound by conventional systems. The group adopted Makaylah’s suggestion, and it became the co-op’s official name, later registered with the state of Colorado.

With a calm and supportive presence, Makaylah fits right into her role, creating opportunities for families to come together, support one another, and build meaningful connections. Her dedication ensures that every homeschooling family has a place to feel supported, connected, and inspired.
